Shane started drawing and painting
at school, although went on to study French, Sociology
and Law at University. Since graduating he has
mainly worked part-time to allow himself the time
to develop his painting. After living in France
and Germany for several years, he returned to the
town of his birth, Hythe, and started to paint
scenes from the local area. By 2005, the interest
in his work was such that it made sense to quit
his job as a lecturer at Reading University and
to paint full-time, opening a gallery in Folkestone.
Nearly all of his work in recent years is done
with thick oil paint applied with a palette knife
on canvas.
Now 33 with seven-year-old daughter
Olive, Shane is committed to producing work of
his immediate surroundings and beyond so that
people can make connections between places they
are familiar with and contemporary painting.
He is not interested in convoluting his work
with complicated concepts and statements and
hopes that his paintings evoke an atmosphere
that the viewer can relate to. |
